skype costs

We are on a 64k line here, contended at 75:1. Just phoned a mobile in UK. 1m 24secs, quality not great but good enough when it costs only 30c ie 20p ish. You can live with it if you can make yourself understood at that price. New infrastructure due to go in here in Santa Cruz in next few months, then Skype puts all Entel calls to shame. 1Bs (12.5c to a local landline), 3Bs /min to a local mobile. There are complex mobile problems here in that you cannot make national calls on some operators etc and it can cost a fortune to make international calls as I discovered when trying to sort out the flights, when I spent some 100Bs (12 US dollars speaking for well under 5 mins in total).

Hi, sorry I had to dash off to meet the press, who didn't turn up so it is as well I went down to take photos of the mayor. The first lot were rubbish as it is very sunny here and I don't know how to set the sodding camera for sun, so we had the ceremony and a buffet and then I got him to pose again once the sun had gone down a bit. He was very good about it and I got a good shot for the paper. We then had the samba band procession through the street with the giant scarecrows and I took a video which meant I ran out of disk space for the prizegiving, but other people have promised to send me pictures and I will do a website with them all. I wish I could find a way to shrink the videos down, giants as high as the houses and the beat of the samba and hundreds of people laughing, it cannot be bad, and should be shown to the world. If you could see it where you are now and show the people there then they could replicate it and joy can spread. Lots of people think of the web as a dangerous place full of viruses, porn, paedophiles and such, but we can fill it full of happy things if we can learn how can't we? Just got to get broadband going first eh what?
I was happy to read your blog tonight though the recipe sounds awful, are you sure it tasted good? The idea of a maid to wash clothes is a brilliant idea, you are getting spoiled but I am glad someone is looking after you as you obviously need someone to!
It is amazing to be able to use skype and keep in contact with someone, this facility alone is worth buying a computer for. If only we could let the sceptics know what they are missing...
Keep blogging, I am sure you will track down a replacement for Florence soon or find a cybercafe. Ours was overflowing tonight but the signal kept dropping, but no-one noticed cos I kept running slide shows of cached photos. I will fall out with that bloody mesh box big time tomorrow. It works fine most of the time but shows you up when the mayor comes round. Bloody machines. It could be something to do with all the bodies in the building, we humans are full of water apparently which is bad for wifi. Ha ha, I will dehydrate people as they come through the door...
Hope you have a good trip and that your clothes are dry in time. I am glad the merry men have sorted your flight for you, and hope you can get all your stuff back in the bag before you come home. The only spare space will be what Florence has vacated so only buy very Small Things.
talk soon, take care,
Chris

1) I brought a spare bag with me to pack things I bought!
2) You need essential viewing software for your videos - ask for Simon Hardy, he's my dad's godson and works there
3) Doesn't drinking large quantities of beer dehydrate you?
4) You don't need a computer to use Skype with the system we are proposing here...how cool is that? These guys have 5 PCs in a municipality of 4000+ people so it has to be easier than that, and it is

I'm off now, chau all
